13 May Construction has commenced on Mount Barker’s new Aquatic and Leisure Centre

Adelaide Now has claimed that Mount Barker’s Summit Precinct – the entire precinct including the Sport Park and Aquatic and Leisure Centre – has the potential to be one of Australia’s leading recreation facilities. Construction has officially begun on Stage 1 of the new Regional Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Mount Barker with the first sod turned on Friday 5 May to mark the official commencement of the project.

The good news is that this incredible new destination is located just five minutes from Clover Park, ensuring that everyone will be able to easily access and enjoy this new wold-class facility.

The new centre is being built on Council-owned land, within a precinct bordered by Bald Hills and Springs Road. The site already contains Stage 1 of the Summit Sport and Recreation Park, linear trail, and heritage barns. A spotlight has been on this precinct since the Summit Sport Park hosted the recent AFL Gather Round, with visitors from all over Australia impressed by the oval, the views and the facilities.
Mount Barker’s Mayor Leach has stated that “While providing amenities for our local community, the site is capable of generating a level of private sector investment able to create local employment and support the Adelaide Hills tourism sector with tourist park accommodation, indoor recreation activities, and outdoor activities like mini golf and aerial rope courses.”

The Regional Aquatic and Leisure Centre is expected to create 15 new employment positions, and the design of stage one of the project will allow future expansion, to include elements such as an outdoor 50-metre competition pool, expanded aquatic leisure facilities and Indoor sports courts.
